SHADOW

by Marguerite Donlon

In ‘Shadow’, choreographer Marguerite Donlon takes her inspiration from three very different well-known personalities – writers Virginia Woolf and Sarah Kane and musician Kurt Cobain. Each pursued their creative path with uncompromising clarity and were ultimately broken by their inner turmoil. Based on her 2006 choreography ‘Shadow’ with music by Claas Willeke, Donlon has developed an atmospheric piece full of expressive combinations of movement, text and music with additional musical compositions by Sam Auinger.

‘Marguerite Donlon guides her six characters through their struggles with a vocabulary of movement that can be breathtakingly fast or slow-motion. But this vocabulary is always supported by great technical precision and psychological coherence. The highlights of the evening are the scenes in which the entire ensemble darkens the stage as a furiously surging sea of shadows’. Thomas Rath, SWR2

In ‘Shadow’ innovative knitwear designer, Laura Theiss has collaborated with Donlon, choosing to define her creative style through the world of ballet. She combines her vivid imagination with advanced manufacturing techniques to produce pieces which enhance the fluidity of Donlon’s spectacular choreography.
